Nichiren Buddhism From My Mentor’s Eyes
Disclaimer: I am a member of Soka Gakkai International (SGI) and Daisaku Ikeda is my mentor, this writing is blog to pay gratitude to my mentor. However, SGI or Daisaku Ikeda should not be held responsible for things I write.
I was really inspired by — Eckhart Tolle quote “The most important life lesson to be learned is the realization of who you are in essence, beyond the person.”
or Dalai Lama quote “Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.”
These is really fascinating but I began to feel a challenge - how can I learn to realize of who I am or motivate myself to take action in adversity.
I found my answers as a Nichiren Buddhist. However, before I say something one needs to understand there is difference between knowing what a “balance” is theoretically and actually “riding a bicycle and balancing it”.
I feel while reading and listening to great thinkers, philosophers and religious leaders I am developing the knowledge like “balance” but not experiencing it.
I believe the key to understanding what Eckhart , Dalai Lama or any great thinker of our generation is trying to say us is not in their quotes alone, it is in the mentor and disciple relationship. A sacred bond between me and my mentor Ikeda Sensei.
This may sound strange — how can a relationship be more significant than life changing words.
Well it all comes down to who is anxiously waiting to hear about my victories in my life. The answer of this question is— Of course my parents, my family members, friends and well-wishers but one more my mentor Ikeda Sensei.
In spite of being more than 90 years old, he is still writing articles/books/poems to motive each and every member, to make sure we succeed in our lives. This means when Ikeda Sensei says
“Happiness is not a life without worries or struggles. Happiness is the robust sense of fulfilment one feels when bravely confronting hardship. It is that elevation of the spirit, like an airplane gaining lift from the air resistance against its wings.”
This means I have to confront hardship and report my victory to my mentor. He is waiting…
